The Fast Food Supply Chain

Last week in Vienna, Austria, my home away from home, I took in a movie called Fast Food Nation and was pleasantly surprised to see all of the supply chain content. In a simple explanation the movie looks the entire process to make a hamburger from the labor, which in the case of the movie is illegal immigrants from Mexico, to the land that the cows are raised on to the delivery of the meat patties or "Big Ones", as they call them, to the restaurant. I don't want to spoil the plot, SO DON'T READ FURTHER, but the meat gets contaminated at one of the suppliers sites and the local food chain is scrambling to find out where in the process it's occurring.

NOTE: If you plan to take mom for Mother's Day to this movie to teach her about supply chains, what better gift, please note that the movie details the slaughter house where they kill the cows and its very detailed and very graphic. But overall its a very good movie to explain what a supply chain is as it shows manufacturing, logistics, procurement, supplier management and customer fulfillment. Enjoy!

Hello chris
Have you read the book Fast Food Nation -Can get a glimpse of the Fast food supply chain there - not a nice one. But it is a good read

My comment 'not a nice one' refers to the Fast food supply chain. The author has described it in a very unflattering manner.

Yeah, the movie wasn't "too nice" either. But it didn't effect me to much as I am a vegetarian. : )

Nice to meet another fellow vegetarian.

I thought it was a good movie. I still love to eat meat though.
